North American Grappling Association (NAGA) is hurting the sport of Brazilian jiu jitsu by putting kids at risk of serious injury. Their slogan of "no Sandbaggers" is pushing kids into competing at more advanced levels than they are comfortable with.
My son recently participated in an event and was pressured to compete at the expert level. Unknowingly to me this level has kids with 6 or more years of experience and the referees are instructed to allow the matches to go a little further, meaning dangerous, because they are experts.
I can tell you after 18 months my son is no expert and it was proven this weekend when his arm was broken. We have an appointment this week with an pediatric ortho surgeon to repair his broken epicondial.
